Unique Student Identifier (USI)
From 2014, all new and continuing students undertaking nationally recognised training will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to receive their certificate of attainment or qualification. The USI has been introduced by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) as a means of linking information about a student's attainments, regardless of where they studied. This will give students a complete record of their VET enrolment and achievement history, and simplify the process for assessing pre-requisites, credit transfer and RPL.
More detailed information about the USI can be found here http://www.innovation.gov.au/Skills/National/UniqueStudentIdentifierForVET/Pages/default.aspx
When should an individual apply for a USI?
An individual can apply for a USI from October 2013. The USI must be provided to their training provider before the person can receive a statement of attainment or qualification post 1 January 2014. More information about using the USI can be found here http://www.innovation.gov.au/Skills/National/UniqueStudentIdentifierForVET/Pages/Informationforstudentsandparents.aspx
We will keep you posted when more information become available and when the USI enrollment process opens
