Essential skills aimed at personnel who work in a supervisory role in the coal mining industry, or have safety and health obligations as a Safety & Health Representative. (Note – the supervisory role does not necessarily involve a statutory position).

Course Content

These are the latest supervisor competencies from the new RII Training Package for personnel working in a supervisory role or who have safety and health obligations as a Safety and Health Representative (formerly known as S1, S2, S3).  Course content covers the application of risk management processes in the workplace, conducting safety and health investigations, legislative requirements, and effective communication in the workplace.

This course includes:

RIICOM301E Communicate Information
Course Content: How to effectively communicate with others in the workforce using various means of communication including oral communication, written communication, meetings, presentations, negotiations and feedback.

RIIRIS301E Apply Risk Management Processes
Course Content: How to effectively apply risk management processes in their workplace including task planning, hazard identification, risk evaluation, identifying controls, and reviewing risk management. It also includes the legislative requirements related to risk management practices.

RIIWHS301E Conduct Safety & Health Investigations
Course Content: How to conduct safety and health investigations in the workplace including preparations, collecting evidence, analysing information, identifying corrective actions, preparing investigation reports and reviewing the investigation process. It also includes the legislative requirements related to the notification and investigation of accidents and incidents.

Pre-requisites

No formal pre-requisites.

Moderate level of language, literacy and writing skills (sufficient for reading, generating written documents and oral delivery of information)
